The major hype around NTFs is subsiding and looking back, I can’t help but scratch my head and think there must be significant buyers remorse happening and shake my head at what has come from it. Especially after seeing the ungodly sums paid for assets that are copy & pasted.

For those not familiar with NTF tokens, read my article here.

The idea of NTFs and how they are currently playing out is a lot different than we thought. Some things are great, other not so much. I’d like to break down my thoughts on recent sells, trends, and ownership.

Huge Sales

Recently someone paid $69 MILLION dollars for an NTF. This was a collage of someone’s work. The First 5000 Days image is a JPG of thousands of pieces of digital art from an artist. This sell was a great thing overall. It really validated the concept of NTFs. The 5000 days image literally took over 13 years to create by the artist, there’s something there for sure. But other sells, not so much. Take a look at the top 10.

Other recent records:

  • Grimes artwork/music videos — $6 million
  • The EverLasting Beautiful by FEWOCiOUS -$550,000
  • Nyan Cat — $561,000

These sells have been great for building awareness of cryto as a whole, it also has created a bubble that I don’t think will last. And sadly, there will be a lot of people with buyers remorse.
